Lot 2524 RUGER 600 JDJ No. 1 CUSTOM FALLING BLOCK RIFLE.

Cal. 600 JDJ. S# 133-73510. Bbl. 26" including 3 1/2" muzzle brake of 8 ports. Front sight is standard Ruger No. 1 (user changeable blued brass bead) ramped base without band. Ruger quarter rib at rear with folding leaf sight and factory 1" rings holding Burris gloss black finished Mini-4X having adjustable objective; duplex reticle. Ruger action made 2000 which is the time period that the cartridge was first introduced by J. D. Jones' company, SSK Industries. SSK and Jones were well known for the many Thompson Center Contender customs they pioneered along with a number of powerful wildcat cartridges. This chambering was created to duplicate the power of the 600 Nitro Express but with a smaller case that could be used in a Ruger No. 1 action rather than the expensive large custom double rifles of the 600 NE which had a cases too big for the Ruger. The 600JDJ cartridge is based on the smaller 577NE case necked up to 60 caliber that is compatible with the Ruger action. The muzzle velocity of the 600JDJ with its 900 grain bullets is about 2,000 FPS with a muzzle energy of about 8,000 foot pounds which is 50% more energy than a 458 Win. Mag. with a 510 grain bullet. The barrel is SSK and caliber marked plus it has a detachable sling swivel banded base (rear swivel base in buttstock). Action, barrel and brake are hard chrome plated as is often featured on many SSK customs. Standard Ruger stock set with an Alex Henry forend. Buttstock is fitted with a CounterCoil adjustable hydraulic recoil absorber and pad; 13 3/4" LOP. Buttstock is wrapped with a laced on South African made Ross cartridge holder. An extremely powerful dangerous game rifle at only a fraction of the cost for a comparably powered double rifle. CONDITION: scope tube has some very light marks. Stock set has minimal very faint handling marks. Balance of rifle is near excellent including metal finish, bore and optics. PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection. (25-6431/NW). MODERN. $3,000-4,500.
