Lot 2490 PREWAR SMITH & WESSON 38/44 HEAVY DUTY DA REVOLVER
Cal. 38 Spl. S# 56401. Bbl. 5". Round blade front sight. Fixed rear sight. Matching numbers on frame, bbl., cyl. & extractor. 1938 made 38/44 Heavy Duty revolver. Grip frame has factory refinish "R-S" marking. Blued finish with case colored hammer & trigger. Unnumbered checkered walnut diamond center grips with silver S&W medallions. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: replacement gold 1926 44 Spl. box with bore brush. Also included is a factory letter that states this gun was shipped with a nickel finish to the Asheville, NC police department in 1938. The gun was the only one in the shipment & the letter confirms the bbl. length. CONDITION: grips show some checkering wear, dings & handling marks. Trigger & hammer retain most of their case colors with some oxidation & fading to gray. Balance of metal retains 92% factory reblue with some pitting under grips, muzzle wear, a light drag line & some scattered light oxidation. Hammer will push off with sufficient force, cyl. is a bit loose when trigger is pulled but action is otherwise functional when hand cycled. Good bright bore with some light frosting. ( 25-1199/MJC).
