Lot 2457 REMINGTON MODEL 81 "THE WOODSMASTER"

SEMI-AUTOMATIC RIFLE. Cal. 35 Rem. S# 16040. Bbl. 22". Model 81 "The Woodsmaster" semi-automatic rifle mfg. by Remington in 1941. Left side of the bbl. shroud is marked with Remington's "DK" (September 1941) date code towards the breech. Left side of the receiver exhibits standard factory markings denoting the model designation and S#, with the top rear edge of the bbl. being marked "35 REM". Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the bbl. and bolt assembly, which are polished in-the-white. Sanded and revarnished plain wood forearm and pistol grip buttstock with checkered steel Remington buttplate. Dovetailed blade front sight with adj. Redfield aperture rear sight mounted on the rear of the receiver. Top of the bbl. is drilled and tapped with 2 holes, both appearing to have either been filled or had their screw heads broken off. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their blue finish, exhibiting some spots of light wear, some scattered superficial handling marks, as well as scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation and pitting. Top and left rear edge of receiver exhibit a patch of moderate pitting. Very bright bore, exhibiting consistent light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows some scattered superficial handling marks and flecks of white paint, but otherwise remains sound. PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection. (25-6456/MLW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
