Lot 2415 EARLY 18TH CENTURY DUTCH FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOLS
BY PENTERMAN OF UTRECHT WITH BRASS LOCKPLATES. Cal. 60. S# NSN. The 13-1/4" swamped round barrels show fine carving to breech areas, but are unmarked. Locks with chamfered arched brass plates are fitted with serpentine cocks, integral facited pans, unbridled friction frizzens and feather springs with long foliate finials. Locks and cocks have some scroll engraving surrounding "Penterman" "UTRECHT" in front of cocks (most likely Gerrit working 1673-1727). European walnut stocks with bag grips extend to muzzles and are pinned to barrels. Relief cast brass mounts include trigger guards with shell and foliate finials, grip caps with grotesque faces and long sideplates with swords, helmets and grotesque faces. Plain hickory ramrods mount through beaded brass pipes and matching thimbles. CONDITION: good; showing considerable cleaning etc as maintenance through the years. Barrels present mostly brown patina which matches iron and steel parts of locks. All brass shows cleaning with minor loss of detail. Engraving on locks hard to read. Stocks have old finish over marks and dings in original finish with mouldings, etc showing light wear. No repairs or losses are noted except for very small sliver of wood restored at muzzle of one pistol. Dark bores are somewhat pitted. Locks are quite good; fairly crisp. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (01-27548/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
