Lot 2411 2 SCOTTISH ALL METAL PISTOLS: 1 SCOTTISH REVIVAL,
1 EARLY. Cal. 55 (both). S# NSN (both). 1) Scottish revival all metal pistol with rams horn butt by I.W. & I. Johnstone (military accoutrement dealer ca 1840-80) measures 12" overall; 7-1/2" barrel octagon to round to 16 sided with flared muzzle has geometric engraving and "London" on top rear flat. Flat lockplate is fitted with high breasted serpentine cock with back sliding safety, waterproof pan, bridled roller frizzen with roller on feather spring. Lock is engraved with scroll and maker's name. Iron frame with rams horn butt and pricker with ball knob has ball trigger and newly made belt hook on left side. Frame is engraved with scrolls within geometric and leaf borders. Thin turned steel ramrod is held by single beaded pipe. CONDITION: very fine. All parts lightly cleaned to silver gray. New belt hook nicely finished and filed. Some bright blue remains on feather spring. Bright shiny bore; mechanically good. 2) Probably ca 1750-90, handmade unmarked all metal pistol measures 13" overall; 8" barrel has some turned in rings, miquelet sear lock with flat plate has serpentine cock, rounded pan, unbridled friction frizzen and feather spring with foliate finial. Steel frame with hand forged rams horn butt with ball handle to pricker has ball trigger, simple belt hook on left side and turned ramrod which mounts in long ferrule. The only decoration noted are punched dots in linear pattern on all components. CONDITION: good. Cleaned to silver gray over stains and some very light pin prick pitting. Bore is dark and pitted.
