Cal. 16ga. S# 8966. Bbls are 30 5/8" of twist steel. Rib is marked "Joseph Manton, Davies Street, Berkeeey Sqre, London". Water tables of bbls have London Definitive Black Powder proofs. Breech end of bbls and rib have exquisite gold inlay depicting crossed arrows, crowns and crowns with floral highlights. Percussion locks are marked "Joseph Manton Patent" along the lower edges. Lock plates have gold inlays depicting fiery dragons. Top tang also has dragon and crown motif inlays. Hammers have vine-type scroll engraving. The long tang trigger guard with pineapple finial is extensively engraved having a game scene with pheasants on trigger guard bow. Long tang of steel shotgun butt has complimentary engraving with a scene depicting partridge. Straight hand stock of fancy English walnut with hand checkering and drop points. LOP from dbl triggers to steel buttplate is 13 7/8". DAC: 1 3/4". DAH: 2 1/8". Neutral cast. Brass tip ebony ramrod is held by an engraved steel thimble and two plain twist steel pipes. Case contains 3-pc ebony cleaning rod, shot flask, powder flask, ivory bottle with spare nipples, silver capper, lock vice, wad cutter, powder measure along with other tools and accessories. CONDITION: bbls retain over 90% finely browned finish. Locks and fittings have faded to gray showing spots of light pitting. Stock has worn finish and checkering showing numerous checks and marks. Break at the wrist is repaired by tack mounted rectangular silver inlays. Sound locks. Bore shows some light pitting. (01-28500/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
