DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 38 Spl. S# 846068. Bbl. 6". Official Police double action revolver mfg. by Colt in 1956. Left side of the bbl. and marked with the model and cal. designations, with Colt's single line address marked on the right. Left side of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt logo. Rear grip strap is "N. Y. S. T.", indicating issue to the New York State Police Scientific Lab also known today as Forensics & Ballistics Lab. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, same for on the sides of the hammer, which are polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt silver medallion checkered wood grips, which has been refinished at one time. Serrated blade front sight with frame notched rear sight. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Letter of Authenticity from Ancestry Guns. Revolver is also accompanied by a Colt factory letter stating: "Serial Number: 846068/ Caliber: .38 Special/ Finish: Blue/ Type of Stocks: Not Listed/ Factory Engraved: "NYST" engraved on the backstrap,/ Sold To: John J. Tobler, Inc./ 507-32nd Street/ Union New Jersey/ Shipped To: Scientific Laboratory/ 8 Nolan Road/ Albany, New York/ Date of Shipment: June 20, 1956/ Colt Factory Order: #8695/ Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 114". CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, showing some light to mild edge wear, scattered spots of light surface oxidation, as well as some light superficial scratches and handling marks. Bbl. exhibits streaks/areas of wear and thinning that are fading to gray and brown patinas. Rear grip strap has faded to a mottled gray patina. Very bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots of light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show light to mild checkering wear, with some superficial handling marks, but otherwise remain sound. (25-5634/MLW). CURIO. $500-800.
