Lot 2343 ATTRACTIVE CUSTOM ENGRAVED COLT U.S. ARMY MODEL OF
1917 DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 45 ACP. S# 166699. Bbl. 5 1/2". U.S. Model of 1917 double action revolver mfg. by Colt in 1918. Left side of the bbl. exhibits a faint "COLT D.A. 45", with the underside exhibiting a partially legible "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" mark below an apparent "1892". Left side of frame exhibits a faint Rampant Colt logo. Butt of frame is marked "U.S./ ARMY/ MODEL/ 1917/ No/ 15/ 134". Sides and top strap of frame feature bordered vine type scroll engraving on punch dot backgrounds, a wavy line engraved on either side of the top strap, and with complimentary scroll engraving extending to the top rear of the bbl., as well as around the circumference of the cyl. Rear grip strap and underside of trigger guard bow exhibit feature matching pattern scrollwork. Cyl. latch features a knurled panel, with a floral motif on the rear. Bbl. features a foliate band around the muzzle, with a triangle and dot pattern engraved on the upper half at the breech. Left side of the frame is engraved with apparent engraver's initials "AA" within a box. Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish overall, save for on the trigger and hammer, which have been jeweled in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece aftermarket checkered wood thumbrest grips, and features a lanyard swivel and ring on the butt. Replacement dovetailed ramped blade front sight with standard square notch rear sight. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: generic black plastic hard case containing 5 moon clips. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some spots of light to mild edge wear. Dark bore exhibits consistent mild pitting, while retaining worn rifling throughout. Action is slightly out of time, but otherwise functions properly. Grips show light smoothing to the checkering, as well as some superficial marks and minor impressions, but otherwise remain sound. (25-5454/MLW). CURIO. $700-1,000.
