Lot 2247 LARGE BORE HAMMER DOUBLE RIFLE BY WALTER LOCKE
WITH CASE. Cal. 577 2-3/4" BPE. S# 26003. The 30" barrels are fitted with full length matted rib having dolls head extension. Rib is fitted with one standing, two folding nested leaf express rear sight and silver bead front. Unmatted portion of rib behind rear sight is engraved "Walter Locke & Co Calcutta. 7F??." Barrel flats are stamped with Birmingham black powder proofs and caliber. S# is on rib in front of loop. A sling eye is on bottom rib. Round bodied Jones underlever action is fitted with peninsula back spring locks having serpentine rebounding hammers. Action is line border engraved with some sprays of scroll. "Walter Locke & Co" is on each lock. Newly made American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/4" over steel buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip and a new sling loop is on toeline. Matching beavertail forend has Deeley release. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: rifle is housed in relatively new black oak and leather case lined in gray suede. A reproduction label is in lid. Case contains a key. CONDITION: good as completely refurbished. Metal retaining essentially all of a re-black over pitting with engraving considerably worn. Newly made stocks retain nearly all of their original finish. Bores are fair to good with pitting throughout. Rifling is strong. Locks are good. Action has a bit of play and is slightly off face. Case is very fine with some minor marks.
