Lot 2245 RARE DREYSE SIDE SWING DOUBLE RIFLE.

Cal. 11.5x60R (43 Mauser). S# 34230. The 25-3/4" barrels are fitted with full length matted rib holding one standing, one folding leaf rear and silver bead front sights. Rear of rib is gold inlaid "F. v. DREYSE SOMMERDA" surrounded by silver inlaid foliate border. Unusual slide forward side swing action is operated by forward pivoting lever that engages slot on bottom of barrels. Moving lever to the rear pulls barrels forward to clear bosses on breech and then slides barrels to the side for loading, in one motion. Needle fire type boxlock action is also cocked by same operating lever and is finely engraved with well cut shaded scroll. Both triggers are set. Trigger guard is horn. One piece round knob pistol grip stock measures 14-3/8" over engraved steel buttplate with trap that covers space for three cartridges. Stock is made of finely stump figured and lightly marbled European walnut and has point pattern checkering at grip. Toeline is also checkered and is fitted with sling loop matching that on barrels. A leather sling is installed. CONDITION: fine as partially refinished. Barrels retaining most of what appears to be their original blue. Other metal parts cleaned to silver and gray. Stock has old oil refinish with some subsequent marks and is slightly under metal. Bores are fine to very fine; shiny with some light frosting in grooves. Mechanically fine. Triggers will set.
