Lot 2244 HAMMER DOUBLE RIFLE BY MILLER & VAL GREISS WITH

CASE. Cal. 10x47R. S# 12762. The 24-7/8" barrels have full length narrow matted rib fitted with one standing, one folding rear and silver bead front sights. Bottoms of barrels are unproofed (pre -1891). Right barrel is stamped with S#. Forward pivoting underlever round bodied action with captive forend is fitted with peninsula back spring locks having non-rebounding serpentine hammers. A flip-up aperture rear sight is in top tang. Action and locks are engraved with about 50% coverage well cut scroll within line and geometric borders. Lockplates are engraved "MILLER & VAL GREISS" "MUNCHEN" in scrolls on each side. Both triggers are set. Trigger guard is steel with finger spur on bow; tang is covered with scroll carved horn forming pistol grip. Straight grip buttstock made of well fiddle figured European walnut measures 13-1/2" over widely spaced checkered steel buttplate with trap. Trap covers holes for three cartridges. Stock features swept Bavarian type right hand cheekpiece and well cut grip checkering. Barrel lifts out of action with forend tipped down and attaches with captive sidebolt through oval steel escutcheons. Opening lever is horn covered. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: rifle is housed in vintage black canvas case with tan leather trim marked "C.H.S.P." on top above central brass medallion. Interior is lined in green cloth and has reproduction label in lid. Case contains: a 410 pull through cleaning kit in leather wallet and square oil bottle. CONDITION: fair to good as refinished. Barrels retaining most of a re-black over brown finish. Action is also blackened with brown highlights showing. Stocks retain some old, probably original, finish with many marks and some minor losses along barrel channel from attempts at forend removal. Bores are fine to very fine. Shiny with strong rifling throughout. Action is tight. Locks are fine. Triggers will set. Case exterior is good with some re-coloring. New straps are good. Interior cloth is stained and rubbed.
