Lot 2243 "IN THE WHITE" BRITISH HAMMER DOUBLE RIFLE
UNDERLEVER WITH CASE. Cal. 360 2-1/4" BPE. S# 5135 (Alexander Henry records indicate that this serial number was a "best" double centerfire gun in 10 bore) . The 25-7/8" barrels with raised rib are fitted with newer "U" notch rear and original silver bead sights. Barrel flats are stamped with London black powder proofs. Bottoms of barrels are stamped "HENRY'S PATENT" and with barrel use numbers "116A" and "117A". S# is on splinter. Round bodied Jones underlever action has peninsula back spring locks with serpentine non-rebounding uncheckered hammers. Action has never been hardened or engraved and is completely unmarked except for London view proofs on watertable. Straight grip buttstock of very finely fiddle figured European walnut measures 14-1/2" over steel buttplate. Usual high quality checkering is at grip. A sling eye and vacant silver oval are on toeline. Matching splinter forend with horn tip has captive side bolt release through oval steel escutcheons. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: rifle is housed in tan canvas and leather case marked "A.H." on top. Case is lined in green cloth and reproduction Alexander Henry label is in lid. Case contains: a small jar of hinge pin lube and original key. CONDITION: very fine essentially "as new" unfinished; never engraved, blued or hardened. Stocks sanded and checkered with final oil finish yet to be done. Bores are bright, sharp and shiny. Action is tight; locks are crisp. Case shows considerable soiling and rubs.
