^Lot 2242 VERY UNUSUAL MARTINI TYPE TIPPING BLOCK DOUBLE

HAMMER RIFLE BY MILLER & VAL GREISS WITH CASE.Cal. 11.6x65R (.450 BPE?). S# 38303 (on buttplate). The barrels measure 27-1/2" inclusive of integral breech area which forms the frame for two pivoting breech blocks of Martini style which are actuated by underlever hinged on trigger plate. File cut rib with maker's name on unmatted portion is fitted with windage and adjustable rear sight and a dovetailed scope base. Rifle is fired with island back spring locks having elongated serpentine non-rebounding hammers; a flip-up aperture sight is in top tang. Action portion of barrels and locks are engraved with 60% coverage nicely cut scroll. Locks are also engraved with ribbons with maker's name and address. A crowned "V" proof is on left rear of action indicating this rifle was "on hand" at the inception of German proof laws in 1891. Both triggers are set and trigger guard has tang covered in scroll carved horn forming pistol grip. Straight grip stock of somewhat marbled and figured European walnut measures 13-3/4" over checkered steel buttplate stamped with S# at toe in typical German fashion. Stock features rounded Tyrolian right hand cheekpiece, point pattern checkering and scnabeled tip. Stock attaches to barrels with captive side bolt though oval steel escutcheons. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: rifle is housed in new full length green canvas case with leather corners; lined in green felt. A reproduction label is in lid. CONDITION: good and shows some poor storage. Barrel retains a good amount of original brown finish and there is some original case hardening color appearing on other parts. However, flash rust has appeared on many elements and is in need of cleaning. Stock retains most of an old oil finish, possibly original. Bores are good with strong rifling; dark in grooves. Action is operable. Locks are good. Triggers will probably set after adjustment. Case is very fine. PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection. (01-28614/MGM). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
