Lot 2239 HIGH QUALITY BOSTON MADE GUN BY C.H. EUTEBROUK.

Cal. 10 Ga. S# NSN. The Boston city directory of 1875 lists Charles Eutebrouk as a gunsmith at 143 Washington Street with his home in East Cambridge. He is known to have patented a Berdan re-decapping tool in 1877. This very well made gun has 32-1/8" fine damascus barrels engraved "Made for A. B. Sherman by C. H. Eutebrouk 21 & 22 Dock Sq. Boston" on slightly raised flat rib. Rib is inlaid with a gold square and has a dolls head extension gold bands are around breech ends. There are no marks on barrel flats except for "18.8" which in millimeters is .74 inches (11 bore). Robust top lever action fitted with front spring locks having rebounding hammers also has no proof marks or numbers on watertable. Action is very nicely engraved with about 60% coverage very cleanly cut and shaded scroll within geometric borders. There are oval game scenes on lock tails depicting snipe. "C.H. EUTEBROUK" is on each lockplate. Trigger guard bow is engraved with a scene of a setter retrieving a grouse as sometimes found on guns by Boston maker David Kirkwood. Round knob pistol grip buttstock appears to be made of figured American walnut and measures 14-3/8" over 3/4" thick checkered hard rubber buttplate. Point pattern checkering wraps over top of grip. A small gold heart is behind top tang. Matching splinter forend with fancy checkering pattern has W.C. Scott type release lever that is not marked. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .797. R .805. Restriction: L .036 (full). R .043 (extra full). Wall thickness: L .046. R .038. STOCK: DAH: 2-3/4". DAC: 1-3/4". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14-3/8". WEIGHT: 10 lb. 12 oz. CONDITION: fine as mostly refinished. Barrels retaining nearly all of a re-brown. Pattern hard to see. Action and locks have traces of case color. Engraving still sharp and clear. Stocks retain nearly all "best" refinish with a couple of scattered marks. Checkering nicely re-cut. Bores are shiny throughout with a trace of scattered pitting and striations in left barrel. Action is tight. Top lever left of center. Locks are good. A high quality gun worthy of further research. PROVENANCE: From the Private Collection of Berrien Moore III. (01-28466/MGM).
