^Lot 2217 FINE CSMC XE FOX 28/20 GA. 2 BARREL SET WITH CASE.

Cal. 28 Ga./20 Ga. S# F205646. This finely made gun has two sets of barrels with set gold "1" 20 gauge, 28". Gold "2" 28 gauge, 30" both with matted game ribs with tops of barrels engraved "MADE TO ORDER" "A.H. FOX" " CHROMOX FLUID STEEL". Breech ends are engraved with 2" triangles of flowing oak leaves. Bottoms of barrels are marked with grade, chamber info, S# and "Fox Proof". Loops are stamped with maker's info. Case hardened, small size, double ogee back Fox action with classic rotary bolt, features automatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in gold) and double triggers. Action is engraved in classic "XE" style with flowing oak leaves surrounding game scenes on sides with a pair of woodcock on left and ruffed grouse on right. Bottom of action has portrait of a spaniel. Trigger plate with matching oak leaves and acrons is engraved "ANSLEY H. FOX" around mounting screw. Blued trigger guard with more oak leaves has engraved monogram "PCP" on bow; S# is on tang. Finely marbled and nicely flame fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-1/2" over checkered wood butt. Side panels are checkered and grip checkering has ribbons through pattern. Matching splinter ejector forends are gold inlaid "1" & "2" matching barrels on interior of irons which are also stamped with patent dates. CONDITION: very fine; close to "as new" with only some high edge wear evident on metal finishes along with a very few minor marks. Stocks also very fine with some scattered marks mostly on left side of butt. Bores are bright and shiny throughout without noted problems. Action is tight. Mechanically fine.
