Lot 2137 EARLY WEATHERBY RIFLE WITH CUSTOM STOCK BY STEINER
WITH SCOPE. Cal. 270 WBY Mag. S# 8724. The 24-1/2" medium weight barrel is marked "WEATHERBY" "270 MAGNUM" on left rear as found on Weatherby rifles from the 50's. Correctly matching FN model 98 action has S# on receiver ring. Action is fitted with Buehler one piece base with elevation adjustment at rear. Custom stock made of crotch figured American walnut with "Made by John Steiner 1958" and "John Steiner" signature (in black marker found in barrel channel). Measures 14" over brown Decelerator pad and features high roll over comb, right hand cheekpiece, rosewood grip cap and forend tip with white line spacers and checkering at grip and forend with relief carved acanthus borders all in 50's style. Rifle is mounted with Weaver V8 2.5-8X scope with dual crosshair retical in Buehler rings. Rifle is fitted with leather sling in push button "QD" loops. CONDITION: very fine retaining nearly all metal finishes with only a few minor marks. Stock is also very fine with a few bumps and rubs; recoil pad replaced. Bore is bright and shiny throughout. Mechanically fine. Scope is fine except locked in 2.5 power with adjustment ring missing. PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection. (25-6484/MGM). MODERN. $2,000-3,000.
