Lot 2124 CUSTOM RELIEF ENGRAVED MODEL 1917 ENFIELD SPORTING

RIFLE CONSIGNOR STATES BY ROY VAIL. Cal. 8x68 S. S# 156 (on action race way). The 26" medium weight round barrel is fitted with island base holding standing leaf rear sight; sleeved on sling eye and short front ramp holding gold bead. Ramp and rear base are engraved with oak leaves; caliber is on left side rear. 1917 action has had rear sight ears removed, magazine straighted, bolt handle reshaped and checkered with three panels. Scope bases are also fitted. Bolt still remains "cock on closing". Action and bottom metal are engraved with near full coverage semi-relief oak leaves and acorns. Left side top of bridge is engraved "MADE IN U.S.A." and monogram "GHP" is in relief on left behind bolt stop. Floorplate is engraved with well done scene of battling caribou. A squirrel is on steel grip cap. No engraver's signature is found, except for possible monogram. Traditionally styled pistol grip stock made of lightly figured American walnut measures 14" over brown "Old English" pad. Stock features shadow line right hand cheekpiece, point pattern checkering and sling eye on toeline. CONDITION: very fine retaining essentially all custom finishes on all wood and metal. Bore is bright, sharp and shiny. Mechanically fine. (25-5045/MGM). CURIO. $1,500-2,250.
