Cal. 8X57MM (8MM Mauser). S# 5099. Bbl. 24" half round half octagon with 2 leaf (1 fixed, 1 folding) rear sight and ramped silver bead front sight; raised solid rib with matte patterned top. Mfg. in Suhl utilizing military action that is fitted with dovetailed front claw mount scope base and screw attached rear base. Matting on front receiver bridge and fine tasteful engraving on action, checkered butter knife bolt handle and commercial (no lock screws) non hinged floorplate trigger guard assembly with military style floorplate release. Tip of safety and bolt release are checkered. Non matching (some faint) numbers on bolt release, safety and follower. Fitted with double set triggers; pattern of rifle closely resembles Model B Pattern 121 Mauser Sporter with extras. Has crown B, U, G and N proofs and marked "7.8mm 57" on bottom of barrel along with serial number. Pistol gripped walnut stock has checkering at grip only. Straight comb with shadow line cheekpiece. Forend tip is abbreviated schnable style. Grooved horn buttplate and black scalloped grip cap. European swivels on butt and barrel with padded brown leather basket weave Safariland sling. CONDITION: nice appearing sporter with appearance of original finish applied by gunsmith upon creation from military action. Faint high edge thinning and some small spots of peppery oxidation on the barrel plus a spot of loss on left side near front. Bottom screws were originally indexed, but now slightly beyond that point due to age shrinking of stock; slightly marred slots. Buttplate has slight insect damage plus faint separation at toe along with small chip. Stock has chip directly behind action tang. Light handling marks throughout stock finish.
