Lot 2113 EARLY JP SAUER TRANSITIONAL SPORTING MAUSER RIFLE.
Cal. 8x57. S# 76838. Bbl. 21 1/2" part-oct part-rnd. Bead front sight. Flip up rear sight. Claw mounted unmarked German scope that has old black enamel refinish. Scope has post reticle & green tinted optics. Early small ring Mauser with cock-on-close bolt that lacks gas holes but has a 98 style shroud. Double set triggers. Bbl. top has JP Sauer marking. Right rear of bbl. has Prussian eagle stamp. Rear of bbl. has "GUSS-STAHL KRUPP ESSEN" marking. Left of bbl. has "2,75 GGBP/Stmg" proof. Many parts including bolt bear "27" assembly number. Bolt handle also has crown "N" proof. Floorplate & right rear of receiver have levers. Metal has old reblue. Pistol grip walnut stock that appears to be period replaced with matching stencil number in bbl. channel, crude bedding, left side cheekpiece that appears added & bottom sling studs. CONDITION: stock has an old refinish appearance with 1 1/2" crack behind upper tang, some dings & handling marks. Metal has a light gray appearance with some screws showing slot damage, traces of reblue, scattered edge wear, handling marks & light oxidation. Action functions properly when hand cycled.
