Lot 2111 J.P. SAUER & SON MAUSER SPORTER BOLT ACTION RIFLE.
Cal. 30-06. S# 182644. Bbl. 21" octagon at rear changing to round near end of forend plus addition of tapered solid rib having brass bead front sight and remnants of folding 2 leaf base serving as a slot blank; Lyman No. 35 receiver sight mounted on left rear of receiver. Created from commercial Mauser action having Crown B proof on bottom of action and at base of bolt handle. Rectangular matte panel on top of front bridge having relief notch at rear edge allowing for long pointed cartridges. Sauer markings on rib along with "Fluid Steel Krupp Essen." radially near receiver plus "30.U.S.G.1906." on left flat and crown "St.m.G." on left side flat. Case colored commercial bolt with pear shaped knob on its curved handle. Mauser serial number on bottom of action is 44580 plus 80 on shroud, blued extractor and added to floorplate that appears originally numbered 644. Bottom of barrel has 182644 plus 644 on its commercial trigger guard having integral double set trigger mechanism. Safety lever numbered 20. Stock is similar to Type B Mauser Sporter with the addition of reinforcing side panels at mid point; characteristic of Sauer. Checkered pistol grip area with plain forend having wedge retention. Herter's checkered black plastic buttplate retained by Phillips screws with 13 7/8" LOP. Scalloped grip cap with indexed slotted screw. European swivels on barrel and at butt with weave braided classic leather sling. Circular brass disk on toe line for engraving. Trigger guard assembly continues the Model B look having lever latched floorplate. CONDITION: nice looking sporter with some minimally scattered, very small spots of faint oxidation in protected areas. Case colors are especially nice and vivid. Stock has been refinished and its checkering chased. Outside edge of wedge is missing its bottom section. Rear tang of action and trigger guard assembly are proud of the stock due to the refinish. Stock has areas of dullness being most prevalent on the right side. Fair to good bore that is worn with light frosting. PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection. (25-6455/NW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
