Cal. 8.15x46R. S# 1270. Built following WWI for sport and target this single shot bolt action rifle has 29-1/2" military type barrel fitted with nicely crafted tangent curve rear sight with windage adjustment that mounts on original Gewehr 98 sight base; left side is marked "Haenel" in arrow logo. Caliber is stamped on left rear of barrel. Model 98 Mauser large ring action without bottom metal (except trigger guard) has normal magazine opening fitted with sheet metal plug with loading tray to accept short cartridge. Receiver ring is marked "ORIGINAL" HAENEL-LORENZ" and with circular Haenel logo. Bolt stop is of Haenel design and a special extractor is fitted to bolt. Both action and bolt handle are stamped with "BU" proofs. Military style stock is unmarked. CONDITION: fine to very fine. Metal retaining about 90% original blue. Stock retains over 90% original oil finish with some bumps and dings. Bore is bright and shiny. Mechanically fine. PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection. (25-6382/MGM). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
