Lot 2098 PRE-WAR NEWTON ARMS CO. OF BUFFALO, NY 1916 FIRST

MODEL BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 256 Newton. S# 689 (bottom of action). Mfg. 1916-1917 & ceased production as The United States of American entered the Great War. Matching numbers on bolt & stock channel. Tapered 24" bbl. Gold bead dovetail front sight on barrel band, & 2 leaf rear sight. Barrel markings include: "NEWTON ARMS CO., INC. / BUFFALO NY / 256 NEWTON". Mauser style action w/ stripper clip guide, checkered bolt knob & dbl. triggers. Patent hinged floorplate utilized for takedown of rifle. Checkered walnut schnabel tipped stock w/ steel grip cap & curved steel buttplate. CONDITION: over 80% blue on barrel & receiver with peppery oxidation, light wear on edges & spots of patina throughout. Good fading blue on grip cap, buttplate & floorplate assembly showing peppery oxidation & areas of worn finish. Wood has very good finish overall showing numerous sm. dents & handling marks. Bore shows wear lands & light frosting. PROVENANCE: Estate of Russell Dickerman. (25-1879/MD). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
