L. CHRISTOPHE. Cal. 405 Winchester. S# 1692 (1928). The 24-1/2" dovetailed barrels are fitted with full length matted rib. Rear position is stepped forming quarter rib. One standing one folding leaf express rear sight is mounted at the junction. Silver bead front sight is in long ramp formed by rise of rib. Barrel flats are stamped with 1928 Belgian nitro proofs. Bottoms of barrels are stamped ".405W". Case hardened ogee backed boxlock action with non-automatic safety ("S" in gold), hidden third fastener, bushed strikers, side clips and double triggers (front articulated) is engraved with nicely cut rose and scroll. "I. Christophe" "a Bruxelles" is on floor plate. Blued top lever and trigger guard are engraved with matching scroll. Lightly streaked and figured European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14-5/8" over ribbed horn buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching splinter ejector forend with Deeley release has individual silver letters "AL" inlet on central diamond. MEASUREMENTS: STOCK: DAH: 2-15/16". DAC: 1-7/8". CAST: about 5/8" off. LOP: 14-5/8". WEIGHT: 6 lb. 11 oz. CONDITION: very fine. Barrels retaining nearly all original blue. Action retains over 95% original case hardening color with only a hint of silvering on beads. Nearly all blue is on trigger guard and top lever. Stocks retain nearly all of their hand rubbed oil finish with a few minor marks. Bores are lightly frosted with strong rifling throughout. Action is tight. Ejectors are strong and in time. A fast handling light weight rifle in a great all around caliber. (25-5014/MGM). CURIO. $4,000-6,000.
