MAG. BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 458 Win Mag. S# 3701. Bbl. 20 1/2". K98 bolt action rifle originally mfg. in 1937 by Mauser under contract for Portugal and later reworked into a custom sporting rifle. Left side of the bbl. is marked "458 WIN. MAG." towards the breech. Top fo the receiver exhibits a faint Portuguese coat of arms above "1937", with the left receiver wall exhibiting Mauser's mfg. information. Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish overall, save for on the bolt handle and floorplate, which are polished in-the-white. 1-piece brown horn tipped blonde wood pistol grip stock features checkered panels on the forearm and wrist, a diamond shaped wood inlay on the underside of the forearm, a hinged floorplate (trigger guard and floorplate marked with Argentine Phrygian cap proofing), grooved brown horn grip cap, a diamond shaped wood insert on the right side of the buttstock, as well as a black rubber Pachmayr recoil pad. Toeline of stock features a sling swivel stud, with the underside of the bbl. featuring an integral sling swivel base and stud. Ramped, hooded, and white synthetic beaded blade front sight with a dovetailed 3-position rear sight ("100" fixed, "200" folding, "300" folding) mounted on an added quarter rib. Bolt features a Buehler safety. CONDITION: fine, with metal components retaining virtually all of their professionally reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some spots of light pitting beneath the bluing on surplus parts/components. Brilliant mirror bore, retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Stock is excellent, showing few light superficial handling marks overall.
