Lot 2004 JOHN RIGBY SQUARE BRIDGE MAUSER TAKEDOWN SPORTING

RIFLE WITH SCOPE, CASE AND PAPERWORK. Cal. 7x57 (.275). S# 5029. The 24" lightweight tapered round barrel with London proofs on rear, is fitted with soldered on island base for one standing two folding leaf express rear sight; soldered long ramp front base holding gold bead; and traditionally styled sling eye. Maker's name is not engraved on top. Barrel takes down with Deeley type latch in forend that retracts an indexing pin; barrel can then be unscrewed by hand. Intermediate length large ring commercial Mauser action with square bridge is stamped with original Mauser number "58725" and German proofs on receiver ring along with British "V" proof and Rigby number "5029" (Rigby letter indicates that on September 12th 1924 it was sold to T.P. Dunhill). Sidewall has been fitted with Akah scope base. Bolt is unaltered with proofs and matching Mauser number; flag safety is gold inlaid "SAFE". Original single pull trigger is retained. Bottom metal with standard floorplate has Rigby number on trigger guard bow. Well streaked European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/8" over steel buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip and forend and a sling eye is on toeline. Rifle is fitted with Weaver K4-W scope with crosshair and post reticle in Akah double lever side mount. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: rifle is housed in new light tan leather trunk case lined in gold fur with internal dust cover. Inside of flap has Rigby label. Case contains: the scope, round plated oil bottle, tin of cleaning patches and a small plastic jar of grease; other items are: Rigby authentication certificate, test targets and other paperwork. CONDITION: fine as partially refurbished. Replacement barrel retains nearly all of its original blue. Action retains most of its original blue with most temper blue remaining on extractor, bolt stop and floorplate. Traces of original blue are on buttplate. Stocks retain most of their original oil finish with light marks and a few scratches; checkering lightly worn. Bore is bright and shiny. Mechanically fine. Scope is very fine, as is later mount.
