Lot 1718 EARLY JAPANESE KWAIKEN.
This elaborate kwaiken measures 10" overall with a 5 7/8" blade and a textured gilded copper habaki. The tsuka has a gilded brass interior with an overlaid one piece copper vine, fuchi and kashira. There is also a central mon in the handle with an engraved motif. The saya is of similar construction with a gilded brass interior and copper overlaid vine kojiri and koiguchi. The scabbard motif includes five more family mons and three cast mons on the kojiri with three more mons on the koiguchi. CONDITION: Blade has a good polish with a few scattered dark spots. Tsuka shows general light wear with expected tarnish as does the saya. (02-25819/BF) $400-600.
