Lot 1712 EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH GRADE JAPANESE ARMY OFFICERS

PARADE SABER.This Japanese army parade saber has an incredibly ornate gold encrusted scabbard. The sword measures 36" overall with a single fullered plain 29 3/4" blade with a plated finish. There are two initials inlaid in gold near the ricasso of the blade. Gilded brass hilt with a pierced guard and plain knuckle bow. Ornate pummel and backstrap with 10 petal cherry blossoms. Wire wrapped black composite grip. The superbly decorated scabbard has a darkened finish with heavy gold inlay over the top 15". The inlays show a 10" dragon on each side with a plethora of scroll and foliate motifs. Even the suspension rings have inlaid gold crosses throughout. The tip of the scabbard as well as the drag also show scrolled gold inlay work. This is most assuredly the highest grade army parade saber that we have seen come through our doors. CONDITION: The blade has a few small areas of plating loss. The hilt shows light wear with the vast majority of the gilded finish remaining. The scabbard shows very light wear and is of truly exceptional merit. (02-25815/BF) $1000-1500.
