Lot 1706 STRIKING PHOENIX HILTED TACHI COURT SWORD.
This ornate decorative tachi measures 40 1/2" overall with a 27 1/2" blade showing a straight hamon and a gilded brass habaki. In place of the normal tsuba is a brass guard of a semi western style with engraved foliate decoration and a pointed bracket on each side. There is one seppa above and below the crossguard. The nakago has a two character signature on one side and a single mekugi-ana. The tsuka has an engraved fuchi that matches the motif of the crossguard. The top of the tsuka is covered with a huge heavy 9 1/2" gilded brass phoenix. There are three gilded bronze studs on each side of the tsuka. There is no tsuka-ito. The wooden saya has five matching engraved mounts similar to the crossguard and fuchi. Tan full sageo with coordinated brass studs on the leather. CONDITION: Blade has a superior polish. Tsuka and saya both show light wear with no damage. (02-25812/BF) $3000-5000.
