Lot 1621 E&F HORSTER WWII GERMAN 1ST MODEL LUFTWAFFE DAGGER

WITH ALUMINUM FITTINGS. Aluminum fittings were utilized after 1938 and considered a modern upgrade at the time. This example was mfg by E&F Horster a well regarded sword and bayonet manufacturer that's lineage began in the 1850's. The grip and scabbard are wrapped in blue Moroccan leather. The grip wrapping is held in place with the original aluminum wire grip. The ricasso of the polished blade is maker marked E. & F. HORSTER / SOLINGEN in an oval vignette which surrounds an intertwined HHS trademark emblem. There is an aluminum hanger chain with 6 rings on the upper section and 9 rings on the lower and marked GES. GESCH. and a diamond OLC stamped on the clasp. CONDITION: overall good original example. Blade is very fine with some very faint pinprick freckling. Aluminum fittings show some minor handling marks and some light scuffs and scratches. Grip leather has some high edge wear that does expose the brown from the leather. Border wire has some loss in the lower 6 channels with the twist center wires being intact and some mild deformation in some areas of the wire. The leather guard/scabbard buffer is in very fine condition. Scabbard fittings show a moderate amount of light scratches and handling marks with some dings. The leather scabbard wrap exhibit scuffing and handling marks with some finish loss. (02-24972/ZAL). NON-GUN. $400-600.
