Lot 1618 WWII GERMAN 1ST MODEL LUFTWAFFE BY ALCOSO.
This first model Luftwaffe dagger was mfg sometime between 1936-38 with early type silver plated zinc alloy fittings, blue Moroccan leather leather wrapped grip and scabbard & brass wire grip wrap. The blade is marked with the ALCOSO maker mark that is ALCOSO / ACS (with scales) / SOLINGEN. Alcosso is the trade name for the Alexander Coppel & Co., a Jewish owned firm. In 1936 the Alexander was forced out by the NSDAP and the ACS marking was utilized until 1940 when it was changed to AWS to signify the change of the company's leadership. It is attached with an aluminum chain with 7 upper rings and 9 lower that is fastened to an aluminum clasp with GES. GESCH. / a diamond enclosed OLC. CONDITION: Overall Good+. The blade is very fine with only light scabbard wear. The plating only remains in the protected areas of the fittings. Leather finish on the grip has high edge wear an scuffs. The leather finish on the scabbard shows moderate to heavy wear on one side with the reverse being pretty good only showing some scattered scuffing and dings. (02-24974/ZAL) $500-700
