Lot 1605 RARE GERMAN WWII DRK RED CROSS LEADERS DAGGER WITH

PORTEPEE. The German Red Cross or DEUTSCHES ROTES KREUZ (DRK) was a civil program. The leader's variation of the organizations dagger was only allowed to be worn for dress and was forbidden to be worn in the field due to the organization being non-combatants and the dagger being considered a weapon under the Geneva Convention. This original example has an unmarked blade with an intact leather buffer. It is mounted with nickel plated cast alloy fittings. The guard has the German Red Cross eagle within an oval vignette and an empty vignette on the reverse. The pumpkin orange celluloid grip has 10 raised horizontal bands. The pommel is fastened with star slotted (6 point) tang nut. The scabbard is decorated with pebbled front and back panels and smooth side panels and hanger bands with rectangular cutouts. The throat is attached with the two screws. The portepee is of aluminum colored bullion with red intertwined accents. CONDITION: overall very fine. Blade is very fine with light scabbard wear. Grips are fine with one side being slightly lighter colored from sun exposure. Grips are fine with some light handling marks. Fittings are very good with some flaking plating and scattered handling marks. Very fine portepee. A great addition to any collection. (02-24976/ZAL). NON-GUN. $1,000-1,500.
