Lot 1531 RARE FN REBUILT DUTCH CONTRACT INGLIS NO.2 MK.I*
HIGH POWER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# KL55038. Bbl. 4 5/8". No.2 MK.I* semi-automatic pistol mfg. in Canada by Inglis under contract for the Netherlands, and subsequently rebuilt by Fabrique Nationale. By 1950s, the Dutch required many replacement parts and components for their MK.I* pistols. Due to Inglis ceasing mfg. of the MK.I* series of High Power pistols and Canadian Forces unwillingness to part with the remaining parts they had on hand, the Dutch turned to FN. FN subsequently reworked a number of Dutch MK.I* pistols, at a minimum replacing the bbl. and other worn parts, while also reproofing each pistol. The left side of the slide is marked "MK I*" above "BROWNING-F.N. 9MM. H.P." and "INGLIS, CANADA". Left side of the frame and slide exhibit a Belgian "L" within a flaming ordnance bomb proof (indicating non-Belgian mfg.). Right side of the frame exhibits Canadian proofs. Frame and slide have been renumbered in the 1960s in correspondence with the Dutch's new numbering scheme. Metal components exhibit a black enamel type finish overall, save for on the bbl., which exhibits a phosphate finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered black synthetic grips, and features a lanyard stud and ring on the left side. Thumbprint slide features a dovetailed blade front sight, with a fixed square notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching in the "stacked" fashion, and include the frame, slide, and bbl. MAGS: 1 matte black 13-rd. mag., with blued button type floorplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: notes from Charles Wagner detailing this variation, as well as an invoice from William O. Drollinger (William O. Drollinger is described as a noted American High Power Collector in Blake Stevens' book, "The Browning High Power Automatic Pistol") dated October 9th of 2000, listing this pistol by S#. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their arsenal black enamel type finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray and brown patinas, some scattered superficial handling marks, as well as spots of flaking overall. Near mirror bore, exhibiting light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. A rare example of an FN rebuilt Dutch contract Inglis No.2 MK.I* High Power pistol. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-430/MLW). CURIO. $1,500-2,000.
