Lot 1518 WW1 GERMAN AMBERG GEW 98 BOLT ACTION RIFLE.

Cal. 8x57 (8mm Mauser). S# 7940. Bbl. 29". Standard Imperial Gew 98 sights with roller coaster rear. Bolt parts, follower, floorplate, front band, front action screw & cleaning rod are mismatched. Other visible parts are matching to receiver. Bavarian Gew 98 made by Amberg arsenal in 1916. Right side of stock disc has unit marking that reads "B.1.P.3.151" for Bavarian 1st pioneer battalion. Receiver, buttplate & bolt are "In-the-white". Other parts blued. Walnut stock set with strong Imperial cartouches, bottom mounted sling swivels & leather sling. UNATTACHED ACCESORIES: Brazilian 1908 muzzle cover. CONDITION: stock set shows scattered dings, handling marks & staining. Receiver & bolt show an old light cleaning with some light pitting & scattered oxidation. Other parts retain 50% original blue with some light pitting on rear of bbl. that may have some faded old touch up finish, overall fading to gray, edge wear, some oxidation staining & handling marks. Action functions properly when hand cycled. Fair bore with scattered frosting & some pitting but good rifling. (25-2968/MJC). CURIO. $600-900.
