RIFLE. Cal. 8x57 (8mm Mauser). S# 59400. Bbl. 23 1/2". Standard K98k style sights with front sight hood. Matching numbers on receiver, bolt handle, cocking piece & bolt shroud. Other parts are unnumbered as-is typical for late war rifles with bottom metal being marked "byf". Receiver ring has "byf 45" marking denoting Mauser mfr. in 1945. Metal is a mix of blue & phosphate finishes. Laminated stock set with left side sling provisions & "L&F" leather sling. CONDITION: cleaned stock set shows a 2" laminate crack behind upper tang, some chipping ahead of rear band, scattered staining, dings & handling marks. Metal retains 70% blue & phosphate with scattered thinning, fading, edge wear & light oxidation. Action functions properly when hand cycled. Bore shows scattered oxidation & dried grease but strong rifling. (25-6176/MJC). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
