^Lot 1511 EARLY MAUSER (S42/G) K98K BOLT ACTION RIFLE.

Cal. 8x57 (8mm Mauser) S# 4730C. Bbl. 23 1/2". Standard K98k sights with front sight having later added hood. Cocking piece & bolt release are mismatched but other visible parts are matching to receiver. Receiver ring marked "S/42G" denoting early mfr. by Mauser Oberndorf in 1935. Blued finish. Walnut stock set with Weimar style proofs, left side sling provisions & leather sling. Handguard is lighter than stock & maybe replaced. No cleaning rod present. CONDITION: stock set has darkened appearance with armorer repair at toe, a large gouge ahead of right side of recoil lug, a couple smaller gouges, scattered dings, handling marks & scratches. Metal retains 40% original blue with overall fading to gray, some cleaning scratches on receiver, scattered oxidation, edge wear, handling marks & light dings. Action functions properly when hand cycled. Bore shows scattered frosting & light pitting but strong rifling. (25-6173/MJC). CURIO. $1,500-2,000.
