Lot 1498 BERETTA 1934 PISTOL OWNED BY JACK L WARNER

PRESIDENT OF WARNER BROTHERS. Cal. 380 ACP. S# 989270. Bbl. 3 1/4". Standard Beretta 1934 sights. Matching numbers on slide & frame. Bbl. is a later mismatched replacement. Left side of slide has Beretta markings with 1942 date in both standard & Roman numerals. Left rear of frame has "V" marking but no commercial or military markings visible. Blued finish. Black grips with PB monograms & silver plaque "TO COL JACK L WARNER/CAPTURED AT CASSINO/JOHNNY GARFIELD". This pistol was captured during the Battle of Monte Cassino & given to Jack Warner then serving as a Colonel in the US Army by actor John Garfield. MAGS: 1-7 rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 1994 dated Warner Brothers letter from Jack Egger (Warner Brothers Director of Studio Protection) that states the gun was given to Luther Riddick, a security officer at the studio, after Jack Warner's death. Riddick later sold the gun to Egger in 1989. CONDITION: grips show light handling wear. Metal retains 95-97% original blue with some light edge wear, light oxidation on grip straps, a couple handling marks & some fading to gray on straps. Action functions properly when hand cycled. Bore shows scattered oxidation & dried grease but strong rifling. (25-5452/MJC). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
