Lot 1489 DESIRABLE GERMAN POLICE REWORK STEYR-HAHN "1919"
DATE MODEL 1912 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm Parabellum. S# 8464y. Bbl. 5 1/16". Steyr-Hahn Model 1912 (German designation: "9mm P12(o)") semi-automatic pistol originally mfg. by Steyr for the Austrian military, and subsequently reworked for German police use circa. 1938. The left side of the slide is stamped "08" (indicating German police rework), followed by the S# and "STEYR 1919". Top of slide is stamped with an Austrian "NPv" nitro proof ahead of the grasping grooves, with an Austrian coat of arms stamped to the rear of the grasping grooves. Left side of the frame is stamped with a German Eagle/N commercial nitro proof (also stamped on bbl.) followed by an "0" within a triangle proof. Austrian military acceptance proofs on right side of frame are partially over stamped with a hand stamped "1930". Right side of frame is etched "1121132" above the grip panel, followed by a German Eagle/L police proof. Metal components exhibit an arsenal reapplied blue finish overall, with some small parts exhibiting a straw finish. Bbl. is polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Dovetailed blade front sight, with integral V-notch rear sight on grasping grooves. Frame and slide are matching via "8464y", with the bbl. matching via "8464". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a scan of disassembly instructions, as well as a magazine article detailing Steyr semi-automatic pistols. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their arsenal reapplied blue finish, showing some mild edge wear, with scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation present overall. Extractor and slide lever retain fair amounts of their straw finish, showing scattered spots of surface oxidation. Trigger and hammer have been cleaned in-the-white, showing scattered spots of surface oxidation. Bbl. exhibits areas of age related discoloration. Brilliant mirror bore, retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show some light smoothing, as well as some scattered superficial handling marks, but otherwise remain sound. (25-5434/MLW).
