Lot 1459 NICE GERMAN WWII MAUSER BANNER "1941" DATE POLICE
MARKED P.08 LUGER. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 5986x. Bbl. 3 15/16". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser in 1941 for German police use. The top of the bbl. extension is marked with the 4-digit year of mfg. "1941", with an Eagle/N commercial nitro proof (repeated on left side of breechblock) and the S# marked on the left, and a German police Eagle/L proof marked on the right. Left side of the unnumbered bbl. is marked with a Mauser Eagle/63 proof, with Mauser's "S/42" code marked on the underside. Toggle is marked with the Mauser banner logo. Metal components exhibit a salt blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Left side of bbl. extension is fitted with a Schiwy safety. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. Nearly all serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the rear toggle pin. Hold-open latch is numbered "80". Grips are unnumbered, but exhibit Mauser Eagle/655 proofs. MAGS: 1 blued matching 8-rd. with aluminum plug marked "1/ 5986/ x". CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original salt blue finish, exhibiting some spots / small areas of wear and thinning fading to gray patina (primarily on edges). Mirror bore, exhibiting some small scattered spots of very light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some light smoothing, as well as a few scattered nicks to the diamonds, but otherwise remain very good overall. (25-6574/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
