Lot 1455 NICE GERMAN PRE-WAR MAUSER "S/42" CODE "1937" DATE
P.08 LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 5038. Bbl. 3 15/16". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser in 1937. Top of the bbl. extension is marked with the 4-digit year of mfg. "1937" over the chamber, with 2 early Mauser Eagle/63 proofs marked on the right, followed by a "droop" eagle firing proof (also present on bbl. and breechblock). Toggle is marked with Mauser's clandestine "S/42" mfg. code. Metal components exhibit a salt blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips, each fitted with an added alloy German party insignia cap pin. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, rear toggle pin, as well as the grips. MAGS: 1 blued "fxo" marked 8-rd. mag. with black synthetic plug. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original arsenal salt blue finish, exhibiting some areas of light to mild wear and thinning (primarily on edges, with a few small patches on left side of bbl.), as well as some minor superficial handling marks overall. Grip straps exhibit light wear and thinning fading to gray patina. Bore is bright, exhibiting scattered spots and some streaks of light to mild pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show light to mild smoothing, as well as some superficial nicks to the diamonds, but otherwise remain sound. (25-6561/MLW). CURIO. $1,200-2,000.
