Lot 1454 SCARCE PRE-WAR MAUSER "G" DATE "S/42" CODE POLICE

P.08 LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 9715e. Bbl. 3 15/16". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser in 1935 for police use. The top of the bbl. extension is marked with the "G" (1935) date code, with early Mauser military Eagle/63 proofs and a droop eagle firing proof (also marked on bbl. and breechblock) marked on the right. Toggle is marked with Mauser's "S/42" date code. Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, save for on some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, safety lever, and ejector, which exhibit a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. Bbl. extension is fitted with a Schiwy safety. Frame is cut for a Walther safety, which is absent. Nearly all serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the rear toggle pin. Grips do not match, but match themselves via "61". MAGS: 1 cleaned 8-rd. with aluminum plug that appears to have been renumbered to match. Plug is marked "2/ 9715", as well as with an apparent Star/K proof. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning fading to gray patina, with a few spots of light pitting. Left side of the frame exhibits an area of unusual finish loss, with the right side exhibiting an area of finish loss and some light pitting. Right side of frame exhibits an area of marring around the takedown lever spring slot. Grip straps exhibit consistent light surface oxidation and pitting. Strawed parts retain fair to good amounts of their original finish, with worn areas fading to gray patina and showing scattered spots of age related discoloration. Mirror bore, exhibiting some spots of very light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show mild smoothing, as well as some scattered nicks and impressions from handling and storage, with the left panel exhibiting a chip at the usual area, at and to the right of the safety lever.
