ERA SIMSON "S" CODE "A" SUFFIX P.08 LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 1293a. Bbl. 3 15/16". 1 of only approx. 1,000 "S" code P.08 Luger pistols mfg. by Simson during Germany's Weimar era, with this example being listed by S# on page 101 of "Simson Lugers" by Edward B. Tinker & Graham K. Johnson. The bbl. extension is undated, featuring only 3 Simson Eagle/6 proofs on the right and the S# (minus the suffix) on the left. Toggle is marked with Simson's "S" mfg. code. Bbl. is marked with a Simson Eagle/RC (Revision Commission) proof, Eagle/6 proof, and a Weimar eagle (also present on left side of breechblock) firing proof towards the breech. Front of trigger guard bow, sideplate, extractor, toggles, and various other small parts exhibit Simson Eagle/6 proofing. Major metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, with some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, safety lever, and ejector exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the grips. MAGS: 1 non-matching plated 8-rd. with aluminum plug marked "S/ (EAGLE/ 6)/ 1285/ a/ +/ (EAGLE/6)". CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their original arsenal rust blue finish, exhibiting some spots of light to mild edge wear, some light superficial handling marks, as well as scattered small spots of light surface oxidation and pitting overall. Grip straps exhibit light to mild wear and thinning that is fading to a brown patina, as well as consistent light surface oxidation and pitting. Strawed parts retain good amounts of their original finish, showing areas of wear fading to gray patina, as well as some scattered spots of age related discoloration. Bore exhibits consistent dark mild to moderate pitting in the grooves and some scattered pitting on the lands, while retaining worn rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show light smoothing and a few superficial handling marks, but otherwise remain very good overall.
