Lot 1446 WEIMAR GERMAN POLICE P.08 LUGER CONVERSION
SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 8128. Bbl. 3 15/16". Originally mfg. as a P.04 Navy Luger in 1917, this example was subsequently reworked after the war into a P.08 configuration for police use. The top of the bbl. extension is marked "1917" over the chamber, with Imperial navy crown (also present on left side of breechblock) / Crown/M proofs, and the S# marked on the left. Right side of the bbl. is stamped with a "TP" above an eagle, indicating rework by the Berlin police armory. Left side of the frame is stamped "1917". Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece period replacement checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. Left side of bbl. extension is fitted with a Schiwy safety. All serialized parts are matching (likely matched during police rework) and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, as well as the toggles. Remaining parts are unnumbered. MAGS: 1 plated 8-rd. mag. marked with an Imperial proof below "359" in large numerals on the wood plug. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some superficial handling marks, with scattered spots of light pitting present beneath the bluing. Very bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots of light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show smoothing and some superficial handling marks, but otherwise remain sound. (25-6062/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
