Lot 1445 WEIMAR ERA DWM P.08 CONVERSION POLICE LUGER

SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH "1933" DATED POLICE UNIT MARKED HOLSTER. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 4628t. Bbl. 4". Originally mfg. as a Model 1920 Commercial Luger by DWM (at that time BKIW "Berlin-Karlsruher Industriewerke"), this example was subsequently purchased and converted into a P.08 for German police use during the Weimar era. The left side of the bbl. extension is marked with a Crown/N commercial nitro proof (repeated on left side of breechblock and underside of bbl.), with an Eagle/WaA66 proof marked on the right. These Model 1920 Commercial Lugers, falling within the "s", "t", and "u" S# blocks were procured by both the Army and German police, with both variations exhibiting an Eagle/WaA66 military acceptance proof in this S# range. The front grip strap is police unit marked "L. SI. 14." indicating issue to the Landjagerei Sigmaringen (Rural Police, Sigmaringen district). Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, with some small parts being either strawed or nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Serrated dovetailed blade front sight with fixed V-notch rear sight on toggle. Left side of the bbl. extension is fitted with a sear safety and frame is cut for a mag. safety, which is not present. All serialized parts are matching (almost exclusively) in the commercial "hidden" fashion, and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate (left side and underside), bbl., bbl. extension, rear toggle link, as well as unusually via 4-digits on the rear toggle pin. Bbl. appears to have been renumbered during the period, likely at the time of conversion to 9x19mm. MAGS: 2 non-matching plated 8-rd. mags. with wood plugs. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brown leather holster mfg. by Robert Larsen marked "ROBERT LARSEN/ BERLIN/ 1933" above a "D" within a starburst police proof on the rear. Additionally, the holster is unit marked "S.B.7563." indicating issue to the Schutzpolizei Berlin (Protection Police, Berlin) to the right of the right belt loop, and contains an unmarked loading tool. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original / period police arsenal blue finish, showing some areas of light to mild wear and thinning that are fading to gray patina, as well as scattered spots of light surface oxidation/pitting. Front grip strap shows light wear at the toe, with areas of wear and thinning on the rear grip strap. Strawed parts retain fair amounts of their original finish, with the balance showing a gray patina and small scattered spots of age related discoloration. Bore exhibits consistent light pitting, while retaining fair worn rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing and a few superficial handling marks, but are otherwise good overall. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting scattered marks from handling and storage, as well as areas of light to mild cracking and crazing. Upper section on right belt loop stitching has torn, with a hole present on the rear panel of the holster body. Closure flap strap has been cut with a second hole. (25-4248/MLW).
