Lot 1444 ERFURT "1920/1914" DOUBLE DATE P.08 POLICE LUGER
SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 7248a. Bbl. 3 15/16". Originally mfg. as a standard configuration P.08 Luger by Erfurt in 1914, this example was subsequently retained under the Treaty of Versailles and utilized by the Weimar era police. The top of the bbl. extension is marked "1920/ 1914", with Erfurt arsenal proofs marked on the right. Toggle is marked with a crown over "ERFURT". Left side of the bbl. is marked with an Erfurt Crown/RC (Revision Commission) proof and an Imperial inspector proof (repeated on front of trigger guard bow), with a horizontal Crown/N marked on the right (repeated on right side of frame and bbl. extension). Front grip strap is marked with a X'd out "S.L.Pol. 1747." (Saxon State Security Police) police unit mark above a "S.P./ L." (Saxon State Police, Leipzig) unit mark. Metal components exhibit an apparent police arsenal reapplied rust blue finish overall, with some small parts exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. Bbl. extension is fitted with a Schiwy police safety. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, toggles, as well as the grips. Firing pin is unnumbered but Imperially proofed. MAGS: 1 matching 8-rd. police mag. with wood bottom marked "7248/ I". CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their apparent police arsenal reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some areas of light to mild wear and thinning that are fading to a gray patina, scattered spots of light to mild pitting, as well as some spots/areas of light pitting beneath the bluing. Strawed parts retain good amounts of their original finish, showing areas of wear fading to gray patina, as well as some scattered spots of light pitting and age related discoloration. Bright bore, exhibiting consistent light pitting, while retaining good rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show areas of smoothing, as well as some scattered superficial marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sound. (25-6060/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
