Lot 1442 UNIT MARKED DWM "1920/1916" DOUBLE DATE LP.08

LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH HOLSTER, TAKEDOWN TOOL, & CLEANING ROD. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 7366a. Bbl. 7 7/8". LP.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol originally mfg. by DWM in 1916 and subsequently retained under the Treaty of Versailles in 1920. The bbl. extension is marked "1920/ 1916" over the chamber, with DWM arsenal proofs marked on the right. Toggle is marked with the intertwined DWM monogram. Front grip strap is unit marked "8.R.1.42." (8th Infantry Regiment, 1st Company, Weapon #42). Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, with some small parts exhibiting either a straw or nitre blue finish. Bbl. been touched up at one time around the circumference of the front sight / muzzle ring. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Fine tune blade front sight, with adj, tangent V-notch rear sight, graduated 1-8. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., front sight blade, rear sight assembly, bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the grips. MAGS: 1 unnumbered 8-rd. mag., with imperially proofed wood bottom. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brown leather holster marked with a partially legible "HANS ROMER/ 1917/ NEU-ULM" on the interior of the closure flap. Holster contains a cleaning rod, as well as an imperially proofed loading tool that is numbered "87227" on the rear. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their arsenal rust blue finish, exhibiting some light to mild wear and thinning, scattered superficial handling marks, as well as some spots of light surface oxidation overall. Right side of bbl. exhibits a concentrated area of mild to moderate pitting, with some pitting present beneath the bluing around the muzzle. Takedown lever, trigger, and safety lever retain scant traces of their straw finish, having been cleaned and now remaining mostly in-the-white. Mirror bore, exhibiting some light pitting and a couple small spots of dark pitting towards the muzzle, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips are good, showing mild smoothing, as well as some scattered superficial marks and impressions from handling and storage. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting wear, scattered handling marks, some areas of minor losses to the exterior from a previously applied adhesive, as well as scattered spots/areas of light to mild age related cracking and crazing.
