Lot 1440 BERLIN POLICE MARKED DWM "1920" DATE P.08 LUGER

SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 957k. Bbl. 3 15/16". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg./assembled after WWI for police use. The top of the bbl. extension is marked "1920", with a vertical Crown/N commercial nitro proof and the S# marked on the left. Left side of the bbl. is marked with a Simson Eagle/RC (Revision Commission) proof, followed by an apparent Eagle/43 proof (this proof not previously seen by this cataloger), with a Weimar era eagle proof marked on the underside, above the S#. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram, with a horizontal Crown/N proof marked on the left. Front grip strap is unit marked "S.B.1620." indicating issue to the Protection Police, Berlin. Metal components exhibit an apparent arsenal reapplied rust blue finish, with some small parts exhibiting a straw finish. Bbl. appears to retain its original arsenal finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Simson Eagle/6 proofed dovetailed blade front sight with fixed V-notch rear sight. Left side of the bbl. extension is fitted with a Schiwy safety. Left side of the frame and interior of the left grip panel are cut for a Walther safety, which is absent. Nearly all serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, rear toggle pin, as well as the left grip panel. Right grip panel is mismatched (S#: "70"). MAGS: 1 matching plated 8-rd. mag., with aluminum follower marked "2" above the S#. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their apparent arsenal reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some spots of light to mild wear (primarily on edges), scattered superficial handling marks, as well as scattered spots/patches of light to mild pitting beneath the bluing. Strawed parts exhibit varying degrees of wear, with worn areas fading to gray patina and showing scattered spots of age related discoloration. Very bright bore, exhibiting consistent light pitting, while retaining good to strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show consistent smoothing, as well as some scattered impressions, but otherwise remain sound. Left grip panel exhibits a chip in the usual area, to the right of the safety lever. (25-6077/MLW).
