Lot 1435 GERMAN WWI DWM "1917" DATE LP.08 LUGER

SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH STOCK & HOLSTER. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 7969. Bbl. 7 7/8". LP.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by DWM under contract for the Imperial German military. Top of the bbl. extension is marked "1917", with DWM arsenal inspector proofs marked on the right. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Metal components exhibit an arsenal reapplied rust blue finish overall, with some small parts exhibiting either a straw or nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Fine tune blade front sight, with adj. tangent V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., front sight blade, rear sight assembly, bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, and grips. MAGS: 1 (likely renumbered) matching 8-rd. with wood plug. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brown leather holster marked with a mostly illegible ink stamped unit marking above a partially legible "MUHLENFELD&Co./ 1915" mfg. marking, and a hand inscribed "SMOLEN" on the interior of the closure flap. Rear of holster is lightly marked with a name, with the last name appearing to match the interior marking. Holster contains an imperially proofed loading tool and unmarked cleaning rod, and is accompanied by a non-matching (S# "3253e") flatboard shoulder stock. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their arsenal rust blue finish, showing some spots/areas of light to mild wear and thinning that is fading to gray patina, with some scattered spots of light to mild pitting present on the bbl. Frame "ears" exhibit a few spots of what appears to be pitting beneath the finish. Strawed parts show mild wear, with worn areas showing scattered spots of age related discoloration. Bore exhibits consistent mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some smoothing and a few handling marks, otherwise remain very good overall. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting scattered handling marks, with areas of light to mild cracking and crazing. Stock has been sanded, exhibiting a few marks and impressions, with leather fittings remaining malleable and exhibiting general wear. Upper harness strap is absent. (25-4250/MLW).
