Lot 1417 RARE U.S. COLT MODEL 1902 "PHILLIPINE" DOUBLE

ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 45972. Bbl. 6". 1 of only 4,600 Model 1902 "Philippine" (commonly referred to as the Model 1902 "Philippine" or "Alaskan") revolvers mfg. by Colt for the U.S. government, this example mfg. in 1900. The left side of the bbl. is marked "45 COLT.", with Colt's single line address marked across the top. Left side of the frame is marked with the encircled Rampant Colt logo and an "R.A.C." (Rinaldo A. Carr) inspection proof (repeated on rear face of cyl.), with a "JTT" (Captain John T. Thompson) inspection proof, "1902", and "U.S." marked on the right. Left side of the forward trigger guard web is stamped with an additional "R.A.C." inspection proof, and is over stamped with an upside down "5" ("5" is also stamped on the frame, beneath the left grip panel). Metal components exhibit what appears to be an arsenal reapplied blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt checkered brown hard rubber grips, and features a lanyard swivel and ring on the butt. Standard pattern blade front sight and frame notched rear sight. Cyl. does not match frame S# or loading gate assembly #. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their apparent arsenal reapplied blue finish, showing areas of wear and thinning that are fading to gray patina, with scattered superficial handling marks, and spots of light surface oxidation and pitting present overall. Rear grip strap has been cleaned at one time, showing small patches of mild pitting. Bore is relatively bright, exhibiting scattered spots and patches of light to mild pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some smoothing, as well as scattered superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sound. (25-5444/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
