DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER WITH FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 45 LC. S# 44417. Bbl. 5 1/2". U.S. Model of 1909 double action revolver mfg. by Colt. Left side of the bbl. is marked "COLT D.A. 45", with Colt's 2-line mfg. and patent information marked across the top, and "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" marked on the underside. Left side of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt intertwined with a stylized "C" logo, with "U.S./ ARMY/ MODEL/ 1909/ No/ 44/ 417" marked on the butt. Right side of the frame is marked with a Rinaldo A. Carr "R.A.C." inspector proof (repeated on cyl. and bbl.), as well as a Walter C. Penfield "WCP" cartouche. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the sides of the hammer, which are polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece plain wood grips, (each marked with an "R.A.C." proof on the butt), and features a lanyard swivel and ring on the butt. Standard clipped blade front sight and frame notched rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame (interior and butt), as well as the cyl. crane. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter stating: "Serial Number: 44417/ Caliber: .45/c/ Barrel Length: 5 1/2"/ Finish: Blue/ Type of Stocks: Wood/ Special Features: Furnished with a Lanyard swivel/ Sold To: United States Government/ Shipped To: Commanding Officer/ Ordnance Depot/ Address: Manila, Philippine Islands/ Date of Shipment: March 9, 1910/ Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 1,000". CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that are fading to gray patina, scattered superficial handling marks, as well as scattered spots of light surface oxidation and pitting overall. Sides of hammer exhibit scattered spots of age related discoloration. Near mirror bore, exhibiting some very light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics.
