Lot 1412 CONSECUTIVE PAIR OF ARGENTINE NAVY CONTRACT COLT
COMMERCIAL GOVERNMENT MODEL 1911 SEMI AUTO PISTOLS WITH LINEAGE TO 2 ARGENTINE BATTLESHIPS. ALL: Cal. 45 ACP. Per "Colt .45 Government Models (COMMERCIAL SERIES) 1912 through 1970" by Charles W. Clawson "In 1914, the Ministerio de Marina (Department of the Navy) contracted Colt to manufacture 321 caliber .45 Government Model automatic pistols for the Argentine Navy. On April11,1914, pistols numbered C6201-6300 were shipped to the Argentine Naval Commission, c/o Fore River Shipbuilding Company, Quincy, Massachusetts, for equipping the battleship Rivadavia being built at that facility. On the same date, serial numbers C6301-C6400 were shipped to Camden, New Jersey, for equipping the battleship Moreno under construction at the New York Shipbuilding Company". Pistol #1 was the last S# sent to battleship Rivadavia. Pistol #2 was the first S# sent to battleship Moreno". Both pistol slides are marked with standard Colt markings along with "MARINA ARGENTINA". Blued finished pistols have Colt 5" barrels. "RA" Inspection marks on top of frames & on slides above firing pin. Commercial 1911 small parts on frame along with replacement dbl. diamond checkered walnut grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: both pistols are housed in a Colt Custom Shop double pistol walnut case w/ blue velour shadow-line interior & having Colt label on lid. Case exterior shows numerous marks. CONDITION: both pistols have a very good reblued finish showing peppery patina & pinprick pitting throughout. Bores show pitting & worn rifling. 1) S# C6300. "RA" Inspection marks on top of barrel & "J" Proof on left lug. MAGS: 1 refinished mag. with lanyard loop; two toned appearance with straight acid line. (25-1214/MD).2) S# C6301. Partial "RA" inspection marks on bottom of barrel & another partial "R" proof. MAGS: NONE. (25-1215/MD). ALL CURIO. $4,000-8,000.
